restaurants
New in Ketchum! The Daily Automatic is a quasi Greek lunch spot serving some of the best hummus, tabouleh, stuffed grape leaves, etc. I've had anywhere. This is our latest favorite for lunch.

Reasons to visit our favorite spots:

CK's is one of our favorite restaurants in the valley. Start off your meal with a Calera "El Nino" chardonnay for $20 and an order of their homemade country pate. Brent Barsotti makes the ravioli which is always delicious. The vegetarian option is always good, as is the panini, and the slow cooked food of the day. I don't care for the french fries or the hummus plate but I have not been disapointed with anything else on the menu. Rebecca (the owner) is very nice as are the rest of the folks who really care about making your evening special. The space is not only attractive but works well with many seats in the bar area and a counter with four seats looking into the open kitchen. One word: Go!

We have enjoyed 5 evenings at Zou 75. The vegetable spring roll, the miso soup, and the south valley roll tops my list.

Alain's restaurant, Bistro 44, is a welcomed addition to the restaurant scene. We have enjoyed the boulliabase, the poulet with perfectly prepared pommes frites, the sweetbreads, the beet salad, coq au vin, and more. We have yet to be disappointed with a meal. On 10/25/02 I had the special pork chop: huge and juicy with a melt in your mouth chantrelle mushroom sauce. The food and wine prices are a good value. We have visited Bistro 44 now many many times and have seen consistency which is rare in this town. 3-8-02, we enjoyed an evening out with our friends, the Gudgells, from Orcas Island. 3 of us ordered the Coq au Vin and the beet salad, Wally ordered the lamb shank and morel soup. We were all very impressed. We are still seeing consistency as of October 2003. Ask to sit in J.C.'s section.

Baci has recently become my choice for best Italian in town. It is not consistent but the ambience is inviting and the food is usually good. We like the Caesar salad, stuffed artichoke bottoms, the pizza, and grilled radicchio salad. The menu changes often, the staff is informed and professional. If you feel like dinner or only a snack and a glass of wine this is a good choice.

Sushi on Second is an option for a light meal or a full blown multi-course event. We love the spinach bayaki, miso soup, Hailey, Sally rolls, popcorn (especially the lobster), friendly service. Make sure to reserve a space on the weekends or busy season.

Desperadoes is consistently good with a great KMT salad, Richard burrito, and tortilla soup. The fresh fish is always a good choice as are the chips and freshly made salsa. Have the swamp water with lunch and if you want ambience at dinner go somewhere else.

The Pioneer what can you say? Consistent. Great burgers, salad, baked potatoes. THE place to see lots of locals

Pizza at The Mint! Excellent thin-crusted pizza cooked in the valley's only wood burning oven. Have one or two while playing pool.

Outabounds Lounge is at the bottom of Warm Springs where the BBC once resided. I like the raspberry chicken salad, the pizzas, hamburgers, spicy chili, and Caesar salad.

Chester and Jakes has had a store in Bellevue for a while now but who has time to drive all the way to Bellevue for a meal? It's what, 15 miles from Ketchum? So now we can enjoy their very fresh shrimp or crab Louie, oysters on the half shell, or very good halibut and chips in the heart of K-Town

again a note: we here at theterens.com do not claim to know anything about critiquing restaurants. We like to go out. We like to eat.
